SWISS FOOD - Cheese and Sausage Salad

käse und wurst

Yes, this is a salad! Well, in Switzerland at least. And you will find it at most salad buffets and restaurant menus. It is actually quite a simple salad to make (not sure one could actually call it a salad) but one that kiddies are sure to enjoy.

DRESSING
INGREDIENTS
15ml Mustard
45ml White Vinegar
60ml Sunflower Oil
Salt and Pepper

DIRECTIONS
Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.

SALAD
INGREDIENTS
4 Cervelat Sausages
300g Emmentaler Cheese (cut into 1cm cubes)
6 Gherkins (cut into 5mm cubes) (I bought little cocktail ones in a jar)
1 small Onion, finely chopped (i used a red onion for colour)
1 small bunch of Spring Onions, finely chopped

DIRECTIONS
Mix the cervelats and all other ingredients including the dressing. Sit for 30 minutes at room temparature to allow for the flavours to settle.

SERVE
I have seen this idea in a few restaurants now, and most of the supermarkets (COOP and MIGROS included) are selling the WECK Jam Jars, so buy a bunch and serve individual portions of your salad inside. Not only does it look good, but it has my kids eating salad more often - afterall everything looks good and tastes better in a jar!
